About Us

  All of the work of Dragonfire Outdoor Learning is underpinned by four core principles:

    • That children need to do more than learn'about' the outdoors (about animals and plants and how to care for the environment) they need to also learn first-hand 'from' it (about relationships, responsibilities and consequences). To do this a  school needs a rich and deep curriculum and plan to give all pupils the opportunity to experience learning that goes beyond the classroom.

    • That teachers and learning leaders deserve high quality support to empower them to have the skills and knowledge to use the outdoors so as to challenge and overcome the barriers to learning that many chidren have (such as confidence, resilience, self-esteem and independence) and nurture other personal skills and attributes children need for lifelong learning.

    • That parents and careers are reassured and have confidence that when children engage in active collaborative learning their children are safe, healthy and happy and are growing their potential to have a successful and fulfilled future.

    • That School Leaders and Governors encourage the use of the outdoors as 'room for learning' and as a vibrant resource to develop children's healthy living and character for learning.
