Deborah Batten

Meet the Team

  Deborah Batten
Deborah is Dragonfire's Outdoor Learning managing director with special responsibility for teaching
and learning.
During twenty successful years as a teacher she has taught pupils in all Key Stages (KS1,2,3 and 4) as well as sixth-form - although for the past 17 years she has focused on primary education. She has a degree in music as well as a PGCE certificate. Despite qualifying as a headteacher, gaining her National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH), she prefers to stay working directly with children - although has spent time as an acting headteacher when a school needed urgent support.

Deborah is fully qualified as a Level 3 Forest School Leader and holds a Level 2 Food Safety Certificate as well as Paediatric First Aid qualifications.
She has an enhanced and current DBS certificate.

It is Deborah's drive and commitment that has created Dragonfire Outdoor Learning, and a deep held belief that children need to develop life skills and re-find a love of learning if they are to thrive and achieve well both in school and in life. This philosophy of learning is summed up in Dragonfire's 'Fruit and Roots' approach to learning where the fruitful skills and knowledge children gain must be rooted and supported by the values, beliefs and personal character that each of them will develop for the future.
